Robinhood Doubles Down on Prediction Markets With 2 Stakes

Prediction markets platform Robinhood (HOOD) named OG.com its infrastructure partner Tuesday and took equity stakes in both OG.com and Crypto.com, the exchange operator OG.com spun out of, according to a PR Newswire announcement.

Key Takeaways

  • Robinhood named OG.com its infrastructure partner for its prediction markets platform on Tuesday
  • Robinhood took equity stakes in both OG.com and Crypto.com, the exchange OG.com spun out of
  • OG.com will supply the matching engine, price feeds and settlement rails underneath Robinhood’s app
  • Robinhood did not disclose the size of the stakes or the dollar value of the arrangement

Robinhood’s Prediction Markets Push Gets a New Engine

The deal, disclosed in a PR Newswire release, gives Robinhood direct ownership in the exchange technology behind its event-contracts business rather than a simple vendor contract. OG.com will supply the matching engine, price feeds and settlement rails underneath Robinhood’s app.

Robinhood did not disclose the size of the stakes or the dollar value of the arrangement, leaving outside investors unable to size the exposure.

Event contracts let traders buy and sell positions tied to a real-world outcome, an election, an inflation report, with the contract price reflecting the crowd’s estimated probability. Robinhood added them to its app earlier this year as regulators eased retail access, putting it in direct competition with Kalshi and Polymarket.

Bigger Bet On Owning the Rails

Tuesday’s deal extends a strategy Robinhood signaled earlier this year with the launch of Robinhood Chain, a permissionless, Ethereum (ETH)-compatible layer-2 built on Arbitrum (ARB) infrastructure and designed to host AI-native financial applications, per a GlobeNewswire announcement.

Layer-2 networks process transactions off Ethereum’s base chain before settling results back on it, cutting fees and speeding trades.

Taking equity instead of licensing OG.com’s technology swaps a vendor relationship for an ownership stake that pays off if OG.com or Crypto.com eventually go public or appreciate in value.

Robinhood shares traded little changed Tuesday, suggesting the market read the move as an infrastructure decision rather than a financial catalyst. Whether owning the rails translates to a durable edge over Kalshi and Polymarket depends on execution that Tuesday’s announcement doesn’t yet prove.
