Fathom is an independent news publication covering artificial intelligence: the research labs, the chips and infrastructure beneath them, the products that reach people, the money moving through the sector, and the policy decisions shaping how all of it enters the world. Where crypto and AI genuinely intersect, we cover that too. We also report the wider technology and finance stories that sit alongside the AI story, because the two are no longer separable.
Our motto is depth at the speed of news. Every story is written to go past the announcement and answer three questions: what happened, why it matters, and how it actually works. A reader’s time is better spent understanding one story properly than skimming ten headlines that each assume they already know.

Why Fathom Exists
Fathom was founded on a straightforward conviction: no real journalist should go to sleep hungry.
The past few years have been brutal for the trade. Newsrooms at some of the largest media companies in the world have cut staff repeatedly, and the people let go were rarely the ones who could not write. They were reporters with sources, with beats they had spent a decade building, with the judgement that only comes from having been wrong in public and learning from it. Meanwhile the volume of published words went up, not down, filled in by content writers producing material to a brief.
There is a difference between a journalist and a content writer, and the difference matters more as the volume rises. A journalist knows which claim in a press release is the one worth checking. A content writer rewrites the press release.
Someone had to step up and give real journalists a place to work. That is what Fathom is for.
How We Report
Fathom’s coverage is organised around dedicated beats rather than a general assignment desk, because expertise compounds and generalism does not. Our writers cover AI research and the frontier labs, AI products and consumer technology, the business of AI, chips and compute infrastructure, enterprise deployment, AI policy and regulation, agents and open-source, and the markets that fund all of it.
Stories are assigned by subject, not by rota. A chip story goes to the writer who covers chips. That is how a beat becomes real rather than decorative.
Our editorial standards are set out in full in our Editorial Policy, but three rules govern everything we publish. We go to primary sources first, citing a company’s own announcement, a regulatory filing or a published paper rather than another outlet’s write-up of it. We explain rather than merely restate, on the view that a story which leaves the reader no better informed about the underlying mechanism has not done its job. And our news coverage is not for sale: sponsored material is confined to our Press Releases section, is labelled as such, and is never presented as reporting.

Fathom is published by Fath Consultancy Ltd, a company registered in Bradford, United Kingdom. Mehjabeen Arsiwala is the responsible editor and holds sole signing authority for the company.
Corrections, complaints and right-of-reply requests should go to [email protected] and will be handled by the editor directly. Where we get something wrong, we correct it on the record rather than quietly amending the text.
Independence And Support
Fathom has no investors, no parent company and no proprietor whose interests we have to work around. Nobody funds us, which is the point: there is no one to please and nothing to protect. It also means the work is paid for out of what the publication itself brings in.
