Funding Round

Mural said the new money will fund global expansion and investment in regulatory and payments infrastructure for agentic finance, where software agents move money on behalf of people and businesses.

Payment Volume

How Mural Works

Mural runs accounts, payments, identity checks and compliance in one system. It handles licenses, bank relationships and both local and blockchain payment rails across markets.

Its compliance engine lets companies set account limits, approve counterparties and require extra sign-off for larger payments. End users can hold U.S. dollars, stablecoins and local currency in a single account.

Race To Build Payment Rails For Agents

Mural is one of several companies building payment systems that AI agents can use. Visa and Mastercard both unveiled agent payment programs in April 2025, and Coinbase launched its x402 protocol the following month to let agents pay for online services in stablecoins.

Stablecoin infrastructure has also drawn big buyers. Stripe closed its $1.1 billion purchase of stablecoin platform Bridge in February 2025. In the U.S., the GENIUS Act, signed in July 2025, created the first federal rules for stablecoin issuers.

Tether has been spreading its profits across a wide range of bets, including a $775 million stake in video platform Rumble in 2024.

Stablecoin Payments

Real-world stablecoin payments roughly doubled in 2025 to about $390 billion, with businesses making up around 60%, according to McKinsey and Artemis Analytics data. Tether issues USDT, the largest stablecoin by use.

Mural was founded in 2022 and is based in New York. It was started by former Palantir engineers Sinclair Toffa, its CEO, and Chris Fernandes. Mural is a fintech, not a bank, and its money transmission runs through its licensed affiliate, Mural Networks.
