Bitcoin Suisse Cuts 60 Jobs in Devastating Global Overhaul
Bitcoin Suisse will cut up to 60 of its roughly 120 Swiss jobs, close its Copenhagen IT site, and consolidate technology work in international hubs as part of a global restructuring announced Friday.
The Zug-based crypto financial services firm framed the move as an expansion of international operations rather than a retreat. A company spokesperson confirmed the plan to the AWP news agency after it was first reported by Finews, with roughly half the Swiss headcount at risk.
Where The Jobs Are Going
Bitcoin Suisse plans to move technology development away from Switzerland and Copenhagen into unspecified international hubs, according to crypto.news. The company has not named the locations that will absorb the relocated engineering roles, nor disclosed a timeline for completing the shift.
A Pioneer Under Cost Pressure
Bitcoin Suisse built its reputation as a first mover in institutional crypto custody, brokerage and trading services in Switzerland’s so-called Crypto Valley. Cutting half its domestic workforce marks one of the larger single restructurings at a legacy crypto services firm this year, a signal that even established players face pressure to lower costs in a market still working through thin margins on custody and brokerage.
What Happens To The Roles Left Behind
The company has not detailed severance terms for departing Swiss staff or specified which functions, compliance, trading or client relations, will remain anchored in Zug. Reuters reported the cuts affect up to 60 of 120 Swiss staff, while Bitcoin Suisse has described the changes as a reorganisation tied to growth abroad rather than an overall shrinking of the business.
That framing is the company’s own. The destinations absorbing those roles remain unconfirmed.
